Upcoming Quilting Retreats

Eastover Retreat - Friendship Circle quilt enthusiasts and friends, August 5-8, 2010.  Spring Grove, VA  Contact Mary Colgin or Mary Biggs for additional information.

November 3-7, 2010 - Camp Alta Mons

"I am honored, humbled, and thrilled to say that my 2009 quilting retreat won ‘Best Cultural Event’ in the Virginia Daughters of the America Revolution contest.  The theme for the VADAR competition was America's Heritage Remembered."

Our retreat will be held at Alta Mons.  This camp is 30 minutes from Roanoke, Virginia and offers night time lodging in a beautiful mountain setting

If there is enough interest, I’ll consider teaching a class on a special and new technique that ends in a stunning result.  The class fee and supplies are not included in the price of the quilting retreat and will be optional.  I’ll provide more info about this at a later time.

Schedule of events:

Nov. 3 (Wednesday) – Arrive at 4 PM.  Eat around 5 – 5:30.

Nov. 4 (Thursday) – Show and tell after breakfast and a spectacular day of quilting.

Nov. 5 (Friday) – In the afternoon, those who wish to shop at Schoolhouse Fabric may do so.  If you have never been shopping at the historic three-story schoolhouse converted into a “Sewing Paradise” I can tell you it is awesome!  They carry all types of fabric including quilting fabric, notions, “gizmos, gadgets, and gotta haves”, craft supplies, yarns, drapery fabric, upholstery fabrics, and everything for the bride—from the brides maids to the flower girl.  Their prices can’t be beat so you may want to “stock up.”  Several ladies from the last retreat talked about bringing a trailer to enhance their shopping experience and to carry all the fabric they purchased!

We’ll be dining in Floyd Friday night at historic Pine Tavern.  We’ll be “going Dutch” for Friday night’s meal.  This way, everyone can order exactly what they want.  After the evening meal, you can go back to Alta Mons to sew or if you have always wanted to attend the world-famous Friday Night Jamboree at The Floyd Country Store—now’s your chance!  Folks come from miles around and all over the world to attend this foot-stomping, flatfootin’, Bluegrass Mountain Music Jam.  Check out their web site if you’d like http://www.floydcountrystore.com/stage/music-schedule

If you prefer to stay at the retreat center and sew that is fine, although there will not be an official meal provided.  There are normally plenty of left-over’s and gobs of snacks too.  The ladies who “stayed behind” at the last retreat did not go hungry and finished some extra projects.

Nov. 6 (Saturday) – Another marvelous day of sewing.  If you need to stretch your legs for a spell, you may wish to take a hike or casual stroll while enjoying spectacular breath-taking mountain views.  This would be a great day to hike to Stiles Falls (weather permitting).

Nov. 7 (Sunday) – Optional “Church in the Wildwood” around 9.  We will have brunch around 10 for those who have a long drive and need to leave early.  Depart at 1 PM.

Cost for the quilting retreat is $365 and includes:

·         Lodging in a beautiful mountain setting.

·         Wonderful meals (home-cooked with TLC) and home-baked artisan scones, cinnamon rolls, muffins, and delectable goodies by Bea the Baker.

·         A personalized quilter’s gift for everyone.

·         Daily door prizes.

·         An opportunity to hike to spectacular Stiles Falls—a 45-foot waterfall that has been a favorite spot in the area for over 150 years.

How do you get your name on the list and reserve your spot for five fabulous days of sewing?  Send your $75 non-refundable deposit to:

Camelia Elliott

PO Box 222

Pilot, VA 24138

Please make checks payable to Camelia Elliott. I’m taking reservations as soon as you receive this letter. The balance is due and payable no later than Oct. 3.

The camp cancellation policy is 60-days in advance of the retreat date. If you need to cancel, please let me know by 70 days in advance—Aug. 25 so I’ll have time to pass this information onto the camp office. Cancellations made less than 70 days in advance result in no refund.

If you are not able to attend, do you know of anyone who would be interested in joining us for this relaxing, fun-filled event? If so, please forward this information to them.

SAVE THE DATE! My spring 2011 quilting retreat is scheduled for April 6 – 10.

Additional questions may be e-mailed to quiltingretreat@gmail.com or call 540-651-7777.
